Memory, also known as RAM is used for storing data temporarily that your computer needs to run programs and processes. However, RAM also loses the data when your computer shuts down or restarts, so you need to save your files to your permanent storage like an SSD or Hard Drive if you want to keep them. RAM is important for your computer’s performance because the more RAM you have, the more programs you can run at once without slowing down your computer.

A hard drive(HDD) like an SSD saves your files and programs, so you can access them later. For example, when you write a document in Word, you can save it on your hard drive and open it again whenever you want. When you turn off your computer, the data on your hard drive stays there, unlike the data in your RAM, which is erased when the power is off.

Pros:

They can store a lot of data for a relatively low cost.

Cons:

They are slower than solid-state drives (SSDs), which use flash memory instead of spinning disks.
They are more prone to damage from physical shocks, heat, dust, or magnets.
They can make noise and generate heat when they spin.
